This is one of the best reading comprehension activities you can buy. The lessons teach the child what to look for in a reading selection while training them to analyze the logic behind their answers (with supporting detail). The Reading Detective series are great for boosting standardized test scores. The only drawback to this product is the prohibitive cost.

Challenging workbook for reading comprehension
I like the way the questions in the workbook require the student to think about why they responded the way they did. This is reinforced by the student having to back up their responses by noting which paragraph best supports their answer. It is also nice that the story excerpts come from famous literature.


Great Series
My daughter is in the [...] and homeschooled. She LOVES the Math and Science Detective books so we decided to try the Reading Detective. So far it's a hit as well. She actually asks for extra school work when we use these books. They are fun AND educational. You can't ask for more than that.

I ordered this book for my 7-year-old who was doing very well on standardized tests, but overall did not employ creative thinking skills. This book has taught her to break down problems to find step-by-step solutions and taught her to verbalize what she could already think through but had difficulty putting into words. Best of all, she loves to complete the exercises; she sees the book as a tool that makes learning fun. This book is an excellent tool, I highly recommend it.

good tool for the mind
A good book to make your child think and make connections. My son thinks of it as a "fun way to learn" and he's always eager to start doing "homeworks".
